
Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon (born March 22 1976) is an American actress. She has received many awards, such as an Academy Award and a British Academy Film Award. Time magazine and Forbes both named her among the 100 most influential people around the world in the years 2007 and 2015 respectively. In 2021, Forbes named her the most powerful actress in the world with an estimated fortune of $400 million.Witherspoon began her acting career as a teenager, making her debut as a screen actress with The Man in the Moon (1991). In 1999, she was a supporting actress in Cruel Intentions and played the role of Tracy Flick in Election. Her role in Legally Blonde (2001 and its sequel 2003) and Sweet Home Alabama (2002 ) earned her more recognition. Her work was critically acclaimed, and she received the Academy Award for Best Actress for playing June Carter Cash, in the musical biopic Walk the Line. Following a dip in her career, in which her only box office achievement was the romantic drama Water for Elephants (2011), Witherspoon made a comeback by directing and producing Cheryl Strayed in the drama Wild (2014), which earned her a second nomination for Best Actress at the Academy Awards. She has since primarily worked in the field of television, producing and starring in various female-led literary adaptations for her company Hello Sunshine. This includes the HBO drama series Big Little Lies (2017-2019) in addition to The Apple TV+ drama series The Morning Show (2019-present) as well as the Hulu miniseries Little Fires Everywhere (2020). For the first she was awarded the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Series. She directed the adaptations to film of Gone Girl (2014) as in Where the Crawdads Sing (1922). Witherspoon also owns Draper James, a clothing brand, and is involved in advocacy groups for children and women. She is a part of the Children's Defense Fund's board and has been named Global Ambassador of Avon Products in 2007. In that capacity, she serves as the honorary chair of Avon Foundation's charitable foundation dedicated to women's issues.
